If you have ever watched the James Bond movie Octopussy, you have also had the opportunity to see a bit of Udaipur on celluloid. This is just one of the many movies that have featured the picturesque city, with its many palaces, lakes and scenic landscapes.
Udaipur came into being in the mid-16th century and still carries much of the magnificence and splendor of the Rajput era

- The City Palace is said to be Rajasthan’s biggest palace. Portions of the large palace complex have been converted into luxury heritage hotels. The palace also houses a museum and a crystal gallery
- The Lake Palace is built on an island in the middle of Lake Pichola, which lends it a unique aura. Originally built as a summer palace, it now functions as a luxury hotel. YouOne needs to take a short boat ride across the lake to reach the palace
- The Ahar cenotaphs are a cluster of cenotaphs of members of the Maharana clan, who reigned in the 16th and 17th centuries. Nearby is the Ahar museum which houses a 10th century metal figure of Buddha, apart from and some rare earthen pottery and sculptures
- The Bhartiya Lok Kala museum has a collection of musical instruments, tribal jewelry and handicrafts
The “India Kosher Travel” Experience
- The Sunset View Terrace, which is part of the City Palace overlooking Lake Pichola, provides an enchanting view of the sunset
- The Maharaja’s Vintage and Classic Car Collection comprises of 22 vehicles including a 1934 Rolls Royce Phantom which was used in Octopussy. The cars are housed in the Garden Hotel, which is about 2 km from the City Palace
