The Queen of the Hills

Shimla was much -loved by the British rulers, so much so that they chose the city to be the summer capital of India during the days of the Raj (rule of the British in India). Today, Shimla is the capital of the state Himachal Pradesh, and has some of the most picturesque locales in the country. Lying close to the Himalayan snow-capped peaks and surrounded by forests of pine, rhododendron and oak, it is also the gateway to Spiti.
